CADETS

The Cadet Choir is a training choir made up of boys who have auditioned for the group and who are generally 6 to 9 years old.  A Cadet should show his ability to listen and respond to directions.  He should have a good attention span and show respect for others around him.  In some cases it may be required that the parent attend rehearsals with their child.  While no previous musical experience is required, it is helpful if a new Cadet can, at the audition, distinguish between sounds that ascend, descend, or stay the same; distinguish the higher of two tones; match the pitch of tones on the piano with the voice for at least an interval of a 5th; and be comfortable singing a familiar song of their choice.

In the Cadets, boys learn the basics of note recognition, matching pitch, singing in parts and good performance demeanor.  They may also participate in choreography and rhythm instrument accompaniment.  Occasionally they rehearse with the Choristers and/or Concert Choir for part of their rehearsal.  The group performs approximately 10 times during the year, some in conjunction with the other choirs, and some on their own.  The Cadets have one school tour day and typically one in-state tour for two days, usually in early June, to give their full-length concerts, see the sights and enjoy their hotel and pool.  Occasionally this tour could be a local PR tour rather than an out-of-town trip.  The Cadets also participate in the Albuquerque Boy Choir Hummingbird retreat in the Fall.

The Cadet Choir rehearses Tuesday evenings from 6:00 - 7:30PM.
